CREATING
OPPORTUNITIES

Through our innovative projects we contribute to child education and the empowerment of women. We invite them to explore their potential to facilitate their growth.
Back

With much inspiration and hope we established the foundation in 2006, with the aim to accompany women and children in vulnerable situations in their growth, skills development and personal realization.

We encourage and generate processes so that the women and children develop cognitive, social, and psycho-emotional skills. We seek to foster healthy coexistence, solidarity, equity and justice.

We remember with great joy some milestones of the foundation:

  • 2007 - We started weekly workshops for women affected by AIDS or HIV-positive in San Juan de Dios. We launched our website.
  • 2008 - The Granos Solidarios (Solidarity Food Basket) program started with 25 women. The ILORI educational initiative is born, with the first workshop held at the Children's Museum.
  • 2009 - We start to work in Carpio —the biggest slum of Costa Rica. We extended the Granos Solidarios and ILORI projects to this community. Children workshops are taught every Tuesday. The activities are held in community halls, churches, houses, sidewalks and in the street. Hard times of great joy!
  • 2010 - ILORI gets its own place in Carpio! We bought a long needed property in the community to carry out our activities. We began to dream of a beautiful place to house ILORI. The first steps are taken to create educational materials. This initiative later become what we now call ILORI WORLD
  • 2011 - We start to build CASA ILORI. The foundation goes from strength to strength. We dream of creating apps from original stories and other educational materials.
  • 2012 - The construction of CASA ILORI is completed —our programs and services grow. Thanks to the support of other Organizations and individuals CASA ILORI is fully equipped. ILORI becomes a full time comprehensive educational program. We develops story apps for children. An organic urban farm project is started in Coronado, San José.
  • 2013 - A wonderful computer lab is implemented. New staff, tutors, and volunteers join us. In ILORI WORLD 3 apps are produced and distributed through Apple Store and Google Play. The organic urban farm in Coronado is consolidated. The women of Granos Solidarios receive diverse skill training and participate in a cooperative savings initiative.
  • 2014 - We celebrate as all ILORI children pass the academic school year!
  • 2015 - The first Guides and Scouts troupe in La Carpio was formed in our ILORI Educational Program. The troupe is currently made up of 50 boys and girls from the community and is led by mothers of ILORI children. Participation in the troupe is, without a doubt, positively impacting the children of La Carpio.

Since 2007, we have been creating safe environments for personal growth in the marginalized communities –Carpio and San Juan de Dios in Costa Rica–. Currently 60 women and 200 children benefit from our projects and programs ranging from tutoring to psycho-emotional development and solidarity economy.

With our support, and with great success, Mauricio Osorio and Samanta Kennedy have developed a certified organic urban farm in Coronado, San Jose. Mauricio and Samanta are experts in urban farming, and they have established partnerships with other farmers and institutions that promote organic agriculture. The urban farm also serves as a wonderful space for workshops and educational activities for ILORI children and visitors.
